Ego State Therapy:
The idea behind ego state therapy is that our mind is composed of various egos or “parts.” Each of these parts have distinct characteristics, roles and different ways of interacting with the world. These states are generally defined in three parts: parent, child and adult. These parts of ourselves have developed over time as a result of life experiences. The goal of ego state therapy is to identify and work together in a coordinated way.
This form of therapy is founded on psychodynamic principles, meaning that internal conflicts are
often the result of different parts not working together harmoniously. Ego state therapy uses
visualization to facilitate communication between these parts. This process is especially helpful
in resolving past trauma and inner conflicts.
Benefits of Ego state therapy:
Healing of complex trauma
Reducing stress and anxiety
Reducing internal conflicts between parts
Increasing self awareness
Improvements in interpersonal relationships
Addressing dissociative symptoms
